Date Night!!

So it has taken three months, but mommy and I finally went out for a nice dinner by ourselves last night. We had been talking about going out, well just about every week since Aiden was born, it just never seemed to happen. Either something would come up, or we would be to tired or no one was available to take care of the baby for whatever reason.

It almost didn't happen again last night. A string of thunderstorms came into the Nashville area about 4:30 with severe thunderstorm warnings until 5:30. We had told Raquel's parents we were going to get the baby to them around 5:30, so we were a little hesitant.

Since the warning was to expire at 5:30 we figured we would push things back just a little bit and leave right after the warning expired. Then about 5:25 Raquel got an email about a tornado warning. Ooops... not so good. It was well south of us, and by this time most of the storms had passed our area by, so we decided, you know what, we're going to dinner!

Of course it was rainy and thunder all evening, and we just went to dinner, no movie or anything afterward so as not to be picking up Aiden too late from the grandparents, but it was nice to just get out. We went to one of our favorites "P.F. Chang", highly recommended for excellent chinese fair.

We came home and mommy was in bed by 9pm, I would have been in bed too, but Aiden was still up for a bit, so we watched Journeyman and by about 9:45 the baby was asleep. Daddy was in bed and asleep by 10:30. Not exactly a romantic date night out until all hours, but small steps right? We got out of the house and did something as just the two of us.

Next time we might even be able to go see a movie, go bowling, who knows, the sky is the limit. :-)

Good for you! It's so easy with a little one to care for to forget that you are a couple as well as parents. Make a point of having date nights on a regular basis. Your marriage and your family will reap the benefits.
